Cairo giants Zamalek were held to a goalless draw by minnows Tersana in the Egyptian league on Monday.

The draw means Zamalek have virtually lost hope in catching up with leaders Ahli at the summit of the league table.

Zamalek also slipped to third place on t43 points, two adrift of second place Ismaili while Tersana held on to their 13th place with 22 points.

The first-half would have passed unnoticed if it weren’t for Abdul-Halim Ali’s header that was deflected by a defender only to hit the right post of Tersan’s goal in the 39th minute.

Zamalek’s attempts on goal intensified but their players were kept at bay by a fortified Tersana defense and alert keeper.

Earlier on Monday, a late goal from Medhat Abdul-Hadi helped Petrojet grab a 2-2 against Asyut Petroleum while Al-Gaish and Arab Contractors played out a goalless stalemate.
