The England captain was carried off the pitch after Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby's boot caught his face accidentally to leave everyone in the Millennium Stadium in a very tense mood, fearing the worst for the Chelsea defender.

Chelsea keeper, Petr Cech, who only recently recovered from a severe head injury himself, said he felt for Terry.

"I think it was one of the worst moments I have experienced on the pitch, because my injury I can't even remember but when I saw the reaction of all the players I knew it wasn't going to be easy and the first three or four minutes after JT's injury I had a lot of emotion," Cech told Sky Sports.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho also revealed he was shaken by the incident, which wasn’t the first for one of his players this season.

"John lost consciousness," said Mourinho. "That was a major problem.

"At that moment, you just want the player to be fine. Sometimes dramatic things happen. You never know when it happens to you.

“This season we have already had the situations with Petr Cech and Carlo Cudicini and the negative thoughts come directly to your mind."

Mourinho also paid tribute to the Arsenal medical staff who was first to react to the situation as they were closer.

"The Arsenal medical department was already there because they had been treating an injury, so they were close to the situation. Everything was under control,'' he said.

Fortunately Terry recovered from his unconsciousness soon after being sent to a nearby hospital and news were positive that the injury was not serious as the skipper was able to join his teammates to celebrate the trophy.

"John going off like that, he would have been desperate to win the game and we have done it for him," said co-captain Lampard.

Even man of the match Didier Drogba said that there were mixed emotions as the joy of winning was accompanied with the fear of Terry's injury.

"We won and we're happy because we've got the cup but we are also scared because we didn't know what to expect when we saw JT on the floor.

"It is difficult because he was one meter away from me (when it happened)," said the Ivorian, who scored Chelsea’s two goals in the 2-1 title victory.

Arsenal midfielder Diaby, revealed his concern over his opponent.

''I was frightened. I wanted to clear the ball, he put his head there, and that's what happened," Diaby said after the game.

"I haven't seen him yet but I want to see him to talk about it...and I'm glad he's alright."

Mourinho cleared Diaby of any misconduct.

"John risked himself and the Arsenal player was trying to protect his goal. I have no criticism about that."
