Struggling side Olympic gave new coach Ahmed Al-Kass a winning start following a 1-0 victory away victory over Arab Contractors in the Egyptian League on Thursday.

Mahmoud Selim 'Shiko' notched home what proved to be the winner 10 minutes after re-start from the penalty spot.

Despite their victory, Olympic are still at the bottom of the league table with 18 points while Arab Contractors remained eighth on 30 points.

Former Egypt international player Al-Kass, who took charge of the Alexandria-based club following the sacking of Ahsraf Qassem, underlined the importance of the victory.

"This victory is a step towards survival," he told the post-match press conference.

"Nevertheless, I still believe we have to work hard in order to climb to the safety zone, the players must keep their feet on ground."

Al-Kass rued back luck, which he thinks was the main reason behind the team's poor form after their promotion to the top flight.

Elsewhere, defender Ahmed Bakri scored in the 55th minute to lead Suez Cement to a 1-0 victory over Petrojet.
