"I was surprised not to be included in Egypt's squad although my recent form has been very good," Al-Saqqa told FilGoal.com.
"Unfortunately, the Egyptian coaching staff doesn't follow my progress with Konyaspor unlike their attitude with other professionals.
"Being a defender also had a negative impact on my news' coverage because papers always write about midfielders or strikers when they score goals or make assists."
The 33-year-old was a regular starter for Egypt and played all the matches in the country's 2006 African Cup of Nations triumph.
Al-Saqqa is wondering on what basis does the coaching staff chooses the players who will represent Egypt.
"I played all Konyaspor's matches in the Turkish League so far and was named the best defender in the first round but wasn't selected in Egypt's squad."
"On the contrary, some European-based players were chosen although they do not play on a regular basis with their teams."
