Egyptian defender Amir Azmi Megahed will miss Al-Shabab's AFC Champions League clash against Al-Ittihad of Syria next Wednesday due to injury.

If to believe Al-Riyadh newspaper, Portuguese manager Jose de Morias had to drop Azmi after the Egypt international picked up a back injury on Sunday’s training session.

The 24-year-old full back has been recently unsettled due to a lack of regular first team football, but it was reported that he was set for a starting role on Wednesday.

The former Zamalek defender will run a scan on Monday to determine the extent of his injury and the time needed for his full recovery.

Azmi was recalled to the Pharaohs formation that faced Mauritania in the African Nations Cup 2008 qualifier last month, but he didn’t have the chance to play.

Al-Shabab are currently second in the group including Al-Ain of UAE, Sepahan Asfahan of Iran as well as Ittihad. The Saudi team has 3 points from two games.
