Sudan's Hilal progressed to the CAF Champions League group stage for the first time in their history after beating Nigerian side Nasarawa United 3-2 in penalty shootout following a 3-3 aggregate draw.

Hilal had to thank goalkeeper Abou-Bakr Al-Sharif for his heroics after he blocked four penalties to earn his side a historic qualification to the quarter-finals.

The Sudanese club won the game 3-0 to superbly overturn the first-leg deficit, thanks to goals from Mozambique's Dario Khan, Nigerian striker Kelechi Osunwa and Saif Masawi.

Hilal maintained their 68-match unbeaten home record in all competitions.

Elsewhere, Algerian side JS Kabylie secured passage to the Champions League last eight following a 2-0 victory over Cameroon's Cotonsport.

Cheick Oumar Dabo scored the opener in the 59th minute before Substitute Nassim Hamlaoui notched in the dying seconds to earn JS Kabylie a 2-1 aggregate victory.
