Ahli's board already agreed a deal with ART

Egyptian champions Ahli are considering filing a lawsuit against local mobile operator Mobinil for broadcasting the club’s league games without permission.

Mobinil, the first mobile operator in Egypt, had reached an agreement with the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) to broadcast all the local league games through Wireless Application Protocol (WAP).

But Ahli officials insist they were not informed about the deal that will see the EFA receive EGP 4.5 million over four years.

“This is an outrage,” Ahli marketing director Adli Al-Qaeyi told FilGoal.com on Wednesday.

“We want to sue because the mobile operator is broadcasting our games without permission, which is a clear violation of Ahli’s rights,” he added.

Al-Qaeyi said that Ahli club had previously offered both local mobile operators a similar deal that was turned down.

He also lashed out at EFA officials for conduct such an arrangement without the permission of the league’s clubs.

“The league clubs have rights,” said Al-Qaeyi. “And these rights have to be respected.”

When asked whether Egyptian league clubs were consulted before the deal was sealed, EFA secretary general Farouk Abdul-Wahab has denied knowing anything about the entire matter.

“I don’t know anything about this deal to begin with,” Abdul-Wahab said.

“No one from the EFA board has informed me about this agreement going through,” he added.
