The 41-year-old veteran signed a one-year-contract worth EGP 500,000 to join Ittihad from Tersana, but Omar has no concerns over Hassan's age.
"Skeptics keep talking about his age, but they seem to ignore the positive attributes of his game and how much the team can benefit from that," the Ittihad coach told Filgoal.com in an exclusive interview.
"Hassan could have an enormous influence on any team he plays for, he is very ambitious, highly spirited and he is natural goal scorer as well."
The Egypt icon has captained every side he joined so far in the Egyptian league, including Ahli, Zamalek, Masri and Tersana.
"The team is in need of an experienced leader, and currently we don’t have one. Hossam’s presence could prevent a lot of problems from happening within the squad," Omar added.
Yet, Omar insists that giving the two time African Cup of Nations winner a starting role is a technical issue.
"It is my call to say whether he will be a regular starter or not, and despite his massive experience and big name, Hassan will be subject to the manager's instructions like any other player."
The Ittihad coach revealed his fine relationship with Hassan, as the duo represented Egypt in the African Nations Cup in 1986 and 1988.
Hassan scored 168 league goals throughout his career, and the 'record-breaker' is only 8 goals shy from surpassing Hassan Al-Shazli's Egyptian league record.
