Ahli vice-president Mahmoud Al-Khatib has rejected reports on Saturday linking the Cairo giants with a move for Sheffield United midfielder Ahmed Fathi.

"We haven’t held any negotiations with Fathi nor do we intend to. Everything that has been said regarding this matter is completely untrue," Al-Khatib was quoted as saying by Ahli's official website.

Egyptian daily Al-Messa claimed that Ahli are on the verge of signing Fathi on a one-year loan deal following the Blades relegation to the Championship.

"Fathi is a very good player and many clubs hope to have him at their disposal. However, Ahli respect his decision to continue his spell in England despite Sheffield's relegation," Al-Khatib added.

The 22-year-old confirmed to FilGoal.com last month that he will fulfill his deal with Sheffield, saying that playing in the Championship is much better than returning to Egypt.

Ahli have signed Zamalek midfielder Moetazbellah Mohamed 'Eno', Railways striker Reda Al-Weeshi and recalled defender Rami Adel from his loan spell with Arab Contractors.
