Zamalek newly-signed defender Beshir Al-Tabie has asked the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) to provide an explanation for his snub by national team coach Hassan Shehata.

"I don't know why I haven't been included in Egypt's squad recently. I asked the EFA to explain this," Al-Tabie told Mehwar channel on Monday.

The former Rizespor defender hasn't been named in Egypt's squad since the 2006 African Cup of Nations, which he asked to be omitted from.

"My request to be left out of the African Cup was due to personal reasons; it is nonsense that I didn't want to represent Egypt. The technical staff at that time accepted my apology.

"I was astonished afterwards when I read Shehata's comments in which he accused me of being a traitor," he added.

Al-Tabie is angry at the technical staff's distinguished handling of the players' inappropriate behaviors.

"Several players have done things much worse than I did but were not punished and were even called up to Egypt's squad," he added.
