Brazil are close to a crashing exit out of the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup after they were handed a stunning 2-1 defeat by the USA in the final Group D game on Sunday.

Brazil are close to a crashing exit out of the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup after they were handed a stunning 2-1 defeat by the USA in the final Group D game on Sunday.

Jozy Altidore struck twice for the Americans in the 12th and 81st minutes, as Leandro Lima's 64th minute strike was not enough for Brazil, who suffer their second group defeat.

The result left the four-time champions in third place on three points as they are desperate for a last 16 berth as one of four best third-place nations.

The US comfortably reached the last 16 phase having the summit of the group on seven points, second-place Poland join in after a 1-1 draw with Korea Republic.

Elsewhere in Group E, Argentina finished top to secure their place in the round of 16 with a 1-0 victory over Korea DPR thanks to a Sergio Aguero strike.

Czech Republic join the South American giants with a 2-1 victory over Panama.
