قطر تواجه مصر وديا

For the sixth day since the competition started, not a single Arab representative registered a victory after Qatar and Oman blew their chances on Thursday in day 2 of the Asian Nations Cup group stage.

Qatar lost some easy points against hosts Vietnam as they were held to a 1-1 draw. Phan Thanh Binh's opened the score in the 32th minute with a very smooth strike but Qatar keeper Mohamed Saqr’s horrible attempts let the ball pass under his body and across the goal-line.

Uruguay-born striker Sebastian Quintana leveled the score 10 minutes before time with a close-range header to increase his tally to 2 goals in the competition. Qatar could have grabbed the full points of the game but the efforts of substitute Ali Hassan were denied by the bar.

The Gulf representative had also a few dangerous chances but they were wasted because of lack of accuracy in front of goal.

Vietnam are now on top of group B with 4 points while Qatar are temporarily second with two points as Japan and United Arab Emirates will play on Friday.

Earlier Thailand beat Oman 2-0 to climb on top of group A with 4 points.

Striker Pipat Tongkanya scored twice in the 70th and 78th minute to register his side’s first victory in the competition since 1972.

Oman produced a very poor display disappointing all the viewers after their brilliant start against favorites Australia 1-1. The Gulf Cup finalists are bottom of the group with 1 point in two matches and their chances fade away.
