Birmingham City manager Steve Bruce confirmed his interest in hiring Tottenham Egyptian midfielder Hossam Ghaly.

"He's one we have enquired about," Bruce was quoted saying on Skysports' website on Monday.

"He came to my attention a year ago when we had Tottenham in a pre-season friendly in the rain at St Andrews."

"It was that game when Berbatov played and scored a stunning goal. But my eye was caught by Ghaly and we've had him monitored since."

The 26-year-old midfielder moved to Tottenham in January 2006 but failed to book himself a place in Martin Jol's formation. He played a few number of games but was able to show some quality football.

"As I said, we've made an enquiry, but it hasn't gone further - yet."

The international midfielder seems very close to the Spurs' exit door especially after ending the season on a low after throwing his shirt to the ground for being substituted in the game with Blackburn Rovers.
