Ivorian striker Boubacar Sanogo left Bundesliga side HSV Hamburg to join Werder Bremen on a four-year-deal, Bremen announced on Tuesday.

Sanogo was set to face fierce competition in Hamburg's front line after the arrival of Egyptian striker Mohamed Zidan, but the Ivorian decided to join Zidan's former club.

The 24-year-old striker was snapped up by Bremen in order to replace departed hitman Miroslav Klose, who joined Bayern Munich this summer.

Sanogo scored four goals in 31 games for HSV last season and he was usually booed by his own fans.
