South Korea claimed third place in the 2007 AFC Asian Cup after beating Japan 6-5 on penalties despite being a man down for most of the second-half.

Kang Min-soo was sent-off for a second bookable offense in the 57th minute but South Korea held on as the normal and extra time finished goalless.

After 11 penalties were converted, Lee Woon-Jae saved Naotake Hanyu's spot-kick to hand South Korea the bronze medal.

The victory, which guaranteed South Korea's place in the 2011 Asian Cup, is the team's third one through penalties in this year's tournament.

Saudi Arabia will face Iraq in the competition's final on Sunday.
