Al-Shabab Egyptian defender Amir Azmi revealed that he joined Hungarian champions Debreceni VSC on a one-year loan deal, with a view to a permanent switch next summer.

"After discussing all the offers with Al-Shabab board, we decided that Debreceni are the best option," Azmi told FilGoal.com on Saturday.

"Debreceni are the best team in Hungary, they won the domestic double last year and will take part in the UEFA Champions League qualifying round.

"It is a very good chance for me to play in such a prestigious competition (Champions League)," he added.

Debreceni won the Hungarian League last year for the third successive season after finishing the campaign eight points clear of second-placed MTK Hungaria.

They also clinched the cup title after beating Budapest Honved on penalty shootout.

Debreceni are currently joint leaders of the Hungarian League with MTK Hungaria after two matches.
