Hannover's goals were scored by Hungarian midfielder Szabolcs Huszti, Icelandic forward Gunnar Thorvaldsson and Germany striker Benjamin Lauth.

The game marked Bernd Schuster's debut as Real coach, after the German took over from sacked Italian manager Fabio Capello last month.

The new Real tactician almost fielded a full-strength squad, including the likes of Iker Casillas, Fabio Cannavaro, Mahamadou Diarra and Raul Gonzalez.

The game also featured new boys Javier Saviola and Pepe, who were both introduced as second-half substitutes.
