Kahn was the hero for Bayern

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Oliver Kahn saved his team from an embarrassing German DFB Pokal Cup first round exit against third division SV Wacker Burghausen as Bayern won 4-3 on penalties.

The 38-year old skipper saved the last two penalties to send his team to the second round after the Bavarian giants were astonishingly held 1-1 by Burghausen.

The amateur side took a shocking 62nd minute lead through Thomas Neubert, but Bayern's new signing Miroslav Klose grabbed an equalizer eleven minutes from time after being set up by Frank Ribery.

"We played a good game and we created many chances, but we failed to convert them and their goalkeeper was very good," Bayern coach Ottmar Hitzfeld said after the game.

Burghausen, who were relegated from the 2nd Bundesliga last season, relied heavily on the marvelous performance of 18-year goalkeeper Manuel Riemann who kept his side alive for much of the game.

However, the rookie guardian could not extend his heroics to the penalty shootouts, where his side were about to register a famous victory.

"We were one shot away from a sensation," said Burghausen coach Ingo Anderbruegge.
