Makelele extends Blues stay

France midfielder Claude Makelele will stay with Chelsea until 2009 after agreeing a one-year-extension, said French newspaper l’Equipe.

According to the report the 34-year-old midfielder had an agreement with his coach Jose Mourinho after being linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge especially that Barcelona, Inter Milan and Paris Saint Germain showed their interest.

The player’s 6-million-euros wage should be reviewed but he has been promised some action with the team and also not blocking any of his international call ups.

The deal should be completed in the next few days. Makelele have been transferred to Chelsea from Real Madrid worth 24 millions euros in 2003.
