Nani scores first United goal
Manchester United needed a second half belter from Portuguese winger Nani to beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 and register their first Premiership win this season.

The $16million summer signing fired an unstoppable 30-yarder in the 68th minute, which almost took a slight deflection off Carlos Tevez, to seal the three points for the Red Devils.

The English champions climbed to 10th place with 5 points, while Spurs’ poor start continues as they have three points from four games, lying 17th.

United missed their star man Cristiano Ronaldo, who completed a three match ban, while Spurs were without the services of record signing Darren Bent, who has a thigh injury.

Egypt midfielder Hossam Ghaly did not make the Spurs’ squad for the fourth straight game, as the unsettled midfield man is still out of Martin Jol’s plans.

Robbie Keane almost stunned the home fans after 35 seconds, but his effort bounced off the bar as United dictated most of the game afterwards.

Tottenham had a strong penalty claim three minutes before Nani’s winner, when Dimitar Berbatov’s shot apparently struck Wes Brown arm, but Spurs players were frustrated when the referee waved play on.
