Ahli midfielder Mohamed Shawky has joined Premiership side Middlesbrough on a three-year deal for £650,000 (EGP 7.5 million), the Egyptian champions announced on Friday.

"Shawky has signed the deal on Friday morning," Ahli marketing director Adli Al-Qaeyi told FilGoal.com.

"We will receive £650,000 and will be handed an additional £150,000 if Middlesbrough sell the player to another club in future.

"We also have the first option to bring the player back to Cairo if the English club decided to release him," he added.

Middlesbrough have initially tabled £400,000 bid to acquire the services of the Egyptian international, but Ahli turned down their offer, demanding a higher fee.

After the two parties agreed on the transfer fee, a new problem arose when Middlesbrough asked to pay the money on two installments.

However, everything has been settled just before the transfer window closure.

The 25-year-old, who underwent a trial at Boro last week, joins fellow countryman Mido at the Riverside.
