Libya missed out on a place in next year's African Cup of Nations following a 1-1 away draw with DR Congo on Saturday.

Galatasaray striker Shabani Nonda gave the hosts the lead five minutes before the break from the penalty spot after Mbala Mbuta was brought down inside the area.

Khaled Hussein drew Libya level seven minutes after re-start when Khaled Hussein's shot went into the back of the net after he was set-up by Tarek Al-Tayeb's neat pass.

Libya finished third in Group J with eight points, one behind second-placed DR Congo and two adrift of leaders Namibia, who defeated Ethiopia 3-2 to secure passage to the Nations Cup.

The North Africans took part in the 2006 competition in Egypt but failed to qualify to Africa's elite tournament for the second successive time.
