Algeria failed to reach the Nations Cup for the second time in a row

Algeria suffered a 2-1 shock defeat to Gambia on Sunday to blow all their chances of qualifying to next year's African Cup of Nations.

Rafik Saifi put the Algerians ahead in the 56th minute before Assan Jatta scored twice, 75 and 88, in the last 15 minutes to give Gambia, who finished the game with only 10 men on the field after Ousmane Jallow's sent off in the 76th minute, a 2-1 win over Algeria.

The game ended in a shameful scene as the Algerian players tried to attack the referee and their opponents, the attitude which pushed the security forces to intervene.

The defeat leaves Algeria second of the group with 8 points three behind leaders Guinea who thrashed Cape Verde 4-0.

Algeria will miss the African party for the second time in a row as they failed to reach Egypt finals in 2006.
