The in-form striker missed Italy's goalless draw with France in the Euro 2008 qualifiers and Donadoni was unhappy at Bayern's dealing with the player's injury.

"The Azzurri camp have said that we underestimated the problem of Luca Toni? This is not true," Hitzfeld told the club's official website.

"In fact we did everything in our power to help the player recover his fitness. We certainly did not hide or underestimate the problem."

Toni produced an impressive form since arriving from Fiorentina in the close season, netting three goals in three appearances in the Bundesliga.
