Hamburg SV grabbed a vital 1-0 first leg away victory against Bulgaria's Litex Lovech victory in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Cup on Tuesday.

The Bundesliga side moved within a step closer of reaching the group stage of the competition, as they just need a draw from the return game next month.

The only goal of the game came from Dutch winger Romeo Castelen, who snatched the winner on the counter, 15 minutes from the end.

Egypt striker Mohamed Zidan was brought on as a late substitute one minute from time at the expense of skipper Rafael Van der Vaart.

HSV will host German Cup holders Nurnberg in the sixth round of the Bundesliga at the HSH Nordbank Arena on Saturday.
