Scott McDonald scored in the stoppage time to give Celtic a stunning 2-1 victory over European champions Milan on Wednesday.

Stephen McManus had snatched the lead midway through the second period before Kaka equalized from the spot.

It was the first time for the Glasgow side to score against Milan at home in four European encounters and it proved vital in the standings.

They are now in third place on three points, same as Milan who lead on goal difference.

Surprise package Shakhtar Donetsk leapfrogged to the summit of Group D with six points after edging 1-0 past Benfica in Portugal courtesy of Jadson's first-period goal.

McManus grabbed the opener two minutes after the hour mark, chesting the ball down towards the goal just to be completed by Milan substitute Yoann Gourcuff.

Six minutes later, Kaka stepped in for Milan's rescue as he converted a neat penalty past Artur Boruc after Massimo Ambrosini was fouled inside the area.

But Gordon Strachan's men registered one of the most memorable victories in the club history as Big Mac gave the crowd their happy meal.

He scuffed a loose ball after Milan keeper Dida parried a long-range shot into his path, before firing into the back of the net in the 90th minute.
