France coach Raymond Domenech has defended his decision to omit striker David Trezeguet from the upcoming Euro 2008 qualifiers against Faroe Islands and Lithuania.

Trezegol hit seven goals in seven games for Juventus so far this term and the 29-year-old is on top of the Serie A goal scoring charts.

However, Trezeguet's fine form was not enough for Domenech, who insisted that the call belongs to him after all.

"I am here to make the decisions and that is what I have done, I didn’t choose Trezeguet because there are other players who are just as good " the France boss said.

"I’m not saying that David isn’t a quality player, but there are others who offer a bit more such as (Karim) Benzema who can play in the centre or on the wing."

The 19-year-old Benzema has been superb for Lyon this season, scoring 9 Ligue1 goals for the French champions.
