Liverpool coach Rafael Benitez remains optimistic his side can still make it through to the UEFA Champions League knock-out phase despite a 2-1 away defeat to Besiktas.

"If we continue to play like we did in this match, with so much dominance, we have a chance," the Spanish manager told the post-match press conference.

"I do not see this as a test for me as a manager, this is football, if you keep doing the right things like we did here, we will achieve what we want."

Finnish defender Sami Hyypia scored in his own net to give Besiktas the lead and was unable to halt Bobo's run as the latter went clear on goal and fired home.

The defeat left Liverpool at the bottom of A with just one point as they have a daunting task of reaching the next stage.

French side Marseille lie at the top with seven points, two ahead of Porto and four clear of Besiktas.

"Obviously it is very difficult now for us to get through but I believe we still can. There are three games left and we must win all three, but we can do that," Benitez said.
