Argentinean striker Nicolas Frutos notched a brace to help Anderlecht beat Hapoel Tel Aviv 2-0 in their UEFA Cup group stage opener on Thursday.

Frutos opened the score in the 36th minute with a fine strike into the bottom-left corner and secured the victory in the 70th minute heading in Lucas Biglia's cross.

Anderlecht's Egyptian midfielder Ahmed Hassan played for the whole 90 minutes but has been far from his form. He failed to create any threat on the opponent's goalie except from some long-range shots that were easily denied.

The Purple and White are on top of group G with three points but with a better goal difference than Getafe who stunned Tottenham 2-1 in London.
