Zamalek have denied on Saturday reports that midfielder Alaa Abdul-Ghani is suffering a chronic knee injury.

The energetic midfielder has been sidelined for long periods and suffered several setbacks on the road to recovery due to a persistent knee problem.

"Abdul-Ghani's injury can be healed with medications," Zamalek doctor Mostafa Al-Monairi told the club's website.

"One can't play if he suffers a chronic injury, and this isn't the case with Abdul-Ghani."

Ahmed Magdi partnered Ahmed Abdul-Raouf in the heart of Zamalek's midfield, but none of them really impressed.

The Cairo giants are aiming to keep hold of Abdul-Ghani as they began talks with the 28-year-old to extend his contract.

According to Zamalek assistant coach Ayman Mansour, the player has agreed to pen a contract extension, and will be financially ranked among the team's stars.
