AS Roma captain and top scorer Francesco Totti has turned down the possibility of going back to the Italian national team after the World Champions secured a spot in next year’s Euro 2008.

"I made my decision to retire from international football straight after the World Cup Final in Berlin,” Totti told the Gazzetta dello Sport on Tuesday.

The 31-year old skipper has announced his international retirement after last year’s World Cup triumph.

"The (Italian) Federation asked me to take some time and I did, but at the start of last season I told them that I wanted to quit and I have never reconsidered since, whether we qualified for Euro 2008 or not. “

The Azzurri’s coach Roberto Donadoni has opened the door for Totti to comeback several times but the latter was firm on his decision.

The Roman confirmed that he had a good relationship with Donadoni and wished his teammates the best of luck in their Euro 2008 campaign.
