Italy in no rush for Donadoni extension

The president of the Italian Football Federation Giancarlo Abete said that there is no rush to sign a contract extension with coach Roberto Donadoni despite securing a spot in next year’s Euro finals.

The president of the Italian Football Federation Giancarlo Abete said that there is no rush to sign a contract extension with coach Roberto Donadoni despite securing a spot in next year’s Euro finals.

“Our plan is to go a long way with Donadoni. But there is no rush to work out a new deal,” Abeto told Calcio Italia on Thursday.

Italy struggled in the qualifiers but their crucial win against Scotland 2-1 got them through.

“We will clarify the situation before Euro 2008. Everyone knows that you don’t go to a tournament with an unclear relationship with the Coach.”

Donadoni took charge of the Azzurri after Marcelo’s Lippi great triumph in the World Cup 2006 and is facing a huge challenge as he is the boss of the World’s champions.
