Egypt defender Wael Gomaa was very happy to go off to a winning start with his new team Al-Siliya, whom he joined on loan from Ahli last week.

Gomaa made his debut for the Qatari side on Sunday, helping the team to a morale-boosting 2-0 league victory over close rivals Al-Arabi.

The victory helped Siliya achieve massive progress in the Qatari league standings, taking them from third from bottom to fourth place in the 10-team table.

"I am very happy with the victory, we took a major step towards a better position in the league," Gomaa was quoted as saying by Siliya's official site.

"I want to thank the fans, specifically Egyptian fans, who gave me great support in my first game with the club."

A fine first day for Gomaa was only blurred by a second-half injury, which forced him to leave the pitch after 57 minutes.
