Ahli to turn attention to youth academy

Ahli assistant coach Hossam Al-Badri said that more focus will be devoted to youth team players during the 2008 African Cup of Nations break in January.

Several Ahli players will be away on international duty with Egypt for the Ghana finals, due to start on January 20th.

"We are willing to promote a number of players from the youth academy in the upcoming period," Al-Badri told Ahli's official site.

"We are already monitoring some promising talents from the U-20 and U-18 teams, and they will have an opportunity in our Arab tour next January.

"It is important that the youth academy is working parallel to the first team, and we had a meeting with youth coaches to assure that."

Ahli have been frequently accused of letting go youth academy graduates for free, the latest of which was Zamalek new signing Sherif Ashraf.
