German sports magazine Kicker said on Tuesday that the Bayern bosses won't extend Hitzfeld's contract after the team's poor display over the past few weeks.

The German tactician has also been linked with Switzerland to succeed to Jakob Kuhn whose contract expires after the Euro 2008.

Van Basten will also be free after the Euro and will be looking for a new challenge.

Hitzfeld have been appointed last summer succeeding to Felix Magath.
