AC Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti praised Alexandre Pato and Ronaldo after their brilliant display on Thursday night.

“We had a risky approach, but that was necessary at this stage of the season to get the victory and the team responded well, especially Ronaldo,” Ancelotti told football Italia.

Ronaldo's double helped Milan winning their first win on home ground after beating Napoli 5-2 at San Siro.

“This was a system we had never really tried before, especially with these particular players, but we will certainly continue honing and using it. They proved they can combine brilliantly on the field and get some great results.”

The 31-year old striker has now two goals in only two games played since the beginning of the season while youngster Pato scored on his debut.

“Pato has pace, the ability to turn and shoot. We could see that in training as well, so now we have to work on how to provide him with better service. He certainly has the talent.

“Ronaldo only started training on January 2 after basically six months out injured. There’s nothing else to say – he is a phenomenon and proved that even when not 100 per cent fit.

“I am happy for him, as he has suffered more than anyone in this season with so many injuries,” added the Milan manager.

AC Milan are 12th of the Serie A table with only 21 points and they are willing to take maximum risks to finish among the top four and secure a Champions League spot.
