Zambia got off to a winning start in the African Cup of Nations after crushing Sudan 3-0 in Kumasi on Tuesday.

Sudan, who appear in the African showpiece for the first time in 32 years, were outplayed throughout the match.

Their displays in the pre-tournament friendlies were very disappointing and their show tonight was no different.

Zambia share top spot in Group C with Egypt, who impressed after beating Cameroon 4-2 earlier in the day.

Zambia striker James Chamanga needed two minutes to open the scoring after collecting Jacob Mulenga's superb back-heel before firing a right-footed shot into the top corner.

Sudan almost grabbed the equalizer ten minutes later when Badr Eldin Eldoud cracked a powerful volley that cannoned off the far post.

Mulenga doubled Zambia's lead six minutes after the interval when he rose unmarked at the far post to head home into an empty net.

Petro Atletico midfielder Felix Katongo completed the rout seven minutes later on the rebound after Rainford Kalaba's initial effort was parried by the keeper.
