Zamalek assistant manager Mohamed Helmi will also be performing football director duties, succeeding the sacked Ayman Mansour.

The Cairo club said that Helmi will take the post despite initial attempts to find another alternative.

Haytham Farouk's name has been mentioned and the former Zamalek and Egypt defender said that Zamalek approached him.

Farouk, who played for Holland's Feyenoord, was tipped for the job as he speaks fluent Dutch and should co-operate well with manager Ruud Krol.
