Xavi scored an early goal as Barcelona edged 1-0 past Celtic on Tuesday to secure passage to the Champions League quarter-finals.

The Spanish international slotted past Artur Boruc after a fine cross from Sylvinho.

The victory means Barca registered an aggregate 4-2 victory over the Scottish side to advance.

Sylvinho dished out another cross but this time to Samuel Eto'o, who chested the ball just wide.

Lionel Messi was pulled out of the game in the 34th minute with an injury.
