"Porto showed what quality they have and played well. They played the better football tonight but thankfully we had a bit of luck and managed to get through," the German striker told Uefa.com.

"We played a good game in the home leg, and managed to get ourselves 1-0 ahead."

Kuranyi scored Schalke's only goal in both legs and helped them win the tie by penalties as both sides drew 1-1 after both legs.

"I was happy to score the goal in the first game of course, but we still had to come here and play. The overall result was the most important thing and it was a great team effort," added the 26-year old player.
