Bayern Munich manager Ottmar Hitzfeld has hit out at his players following their 2-1 defeat against Anderlecht in the UEFA Cup.

“Beyond the first twenty minutes, where we played very good football, created lots of chances, and could have gone 2-0 ahead, I am not happy” declared Hitzfeld.

“Through two unnecessary goals, we allowed ourselves to lose out rhythm. After that we didn’t play well. We put pressure on them, but were unable to create clear goal scoring opportunities," Hitzfeld said after the game.

Bayern got through to the second round after thrashing Anderlecht 5-0 a week ago.

Hitzfeld lined-up a second string side including new signing Breno who showed s solid defensive performance in his debut for the Bavarian side.

“It’s understandable that Breno lacked a certain security on his competitive debut but he showed how strong he is. I am disappointed that not all players showed a high level of performance.
