Saudi Arabia received a drubbing 3-0 defeat at Uzbekistan in the 2010 World Cup qualifiers for the Asian zone on Wednesday.

Timur Kapadze, Maksim Shatskikh and Server Djeparov scored for the home side to conclude a famous victory over the 2007 Asian Cup of Nations finalists.

Uzbekistan have six points from two games on top of Group D, while Saudi Arabia slipped to third place with three, leveling with Singapore, who saw off Lebanon 2-0.

Schwarzer Saves Australia

In Kunming, Australia survived a late penalty scare to secure a 0-0 draw with China and maintain their position on top of Group A.

Goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer was the hero for the Socceroos as the Middlesbrough guardian saved an 89th minute spot kick from Shao Jihai.

Australia have four points at the summit, while China are second with two. Asian champions Iraq, who will face Qatar later, have one point in third place.

Elsewhere, South Korea played out a goalless draw with neighbors North Korea, as both teams have four points in Group C.

In Group B, Ismail Suleiman fired home after 26 seconds to give Oman a 1-0 win at Thailand, in a game that witnessed eight yellow cards and one red for the visitors.
