He may return to Derby

Derby County coach Paul Jewell has renewed his willingness to sign Hossam Ghaly on permanent basis after the Egyptian's recent impressive displays.

Ghaly, who is on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, has won his manager's praises last week after two fine performances against Middlesbrough and Fulham, even though the latter witnessed the Rams' relegation.

Jewell declared over the weekend that 'work has started' for next season, and the former Wigan boss hopes that Ghaly will be part of his team's setup.

"I haven't spoken to Hossam about next season because I don't know what he wants to do but I will be sitting down with him," Jewell was quoted by Derby Telegraph.

"Hossam is a quality player and I will be trying to sign him. Whether he wants to play in the Championship or whether he sees his future elsewhere, that's another thing."

Jewell has no doubts over Ghaly's abilities, but believes the former Ahli star is yet to improve certain aspects of his game.

"Hossam has shown real touches of quality and Premier League class at times. If we can just add a bit of consistency to his game, he will be even better," he added.

"I also think he should be getting himself more goals, given the quality he has. He is always looking to put people through rather than just having a shot himself.

"In flashes he has been brilliant."

Ghaly revealed last year that he is unlikely to be wearing the Spurs shirt again, even with the arrival of new coach Juande Ramos at White Hart Lane.
