Schalke striker Kevin Kuranyi would move away from the Veltins Arena if the club fails to secure a Champions League spot next season, claimed Sportbild.

The report revealed that the Germany striker has an unknown release clause in his contract which allows him to leave for 25m euros.

“It’s true. At the moment, being successful is all that counts. I want to help Schalke qualify for the Champions league. I feel good at Schalke and find it difficult to imagine me leaving,” Kuranyi told Sportbild.

However his advisor Roger Wittman confirmed that it’s not all about money because Kuranyi wants to play in Europe’s top competition.

“Kevin wants to play at the highest level. That doesn’t mean the Uefa Cup, which is where Schalke will be if the fail to finish in the top three in the Bundesliga,” explained Wittman.

It won’t be the first time for Kuranyi to move that way as he quit Stuttgart in 2005 for 7m euros using the same clause.

To finish among the top three is a top priority for Schalke now as keeper Manuel Neuer and Brazilian defender Rafinha took Kuranyi’s position.

“The thought is to keep Kevin Kuranyi at the club for the long term. The decisive thing will be what prospects we can offer him, because he wants to be regularly be playing Champions League football,” manager Andreas Muller said.
