Sherif Ekrami said that Feyenoord's Dutch Cup triumph was the 'best event' of a difficult season for the Egyptian goalkeeper.

Ekrami's season at Rotterdam was plagued by injuries, which saw him playing only once in the Eredivisie this term.

"This trophy is special for me, it is the first of my career," the 25-year-old told FilGoal.com.

"It was important for me because my season was very tough, I suffered a lot from injuries, so I think the cup title was the best event for me this season."

Apart from injuries, the former Ahli youngster struggled to compete with Holland guardian Henk Timmer for a first-team spot with the Rotterdammers.

"I hope next season I could get more chances under the new coach," added Ekrami, who was ruled out for the rest of the campaign.

Gertjan Verbeek will take charge of Feyenoord in the summer, replacing Bert Van Marwijk.
