Egyptian FA president Samir Zaher stood firm on his stance that the league format stays as it is next season.

"There have been calls from ten teams to change the league format, but the FA board firmly rejected their request," Zaher told FilGoal.com on Friday.

"After careful consideration, the FA's technical committee deemed the proposal unsuitable."

There have been repeated pleas over the past few years for an implementation of a two-group competition instead of the current 16-team group.

Relegation-threatened clubs apparently want their proposal to take effect in order to stay in the top flight as the new format will witness several additional participants.

They justify their demands by insisting that the new format will increase title pursuers.

Cairo giants Ahli have wrapped up their fourth consecutive league title five rounds before the end.
