Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard, who will depart after the end of the season, accepted his share of responsibility for the team's mediocre season.

The Catalans ended a second successive season without silverware. The poor results prompted Barcelona to sack Rijkaard and appoint Pep Guardiola.

The Dutchman, who won with Barcelona two Primera Liga titles and one Champions League trophy, admitted that he is responsible for the disappointing campaign.

"I accept my responsibility, as always," Rijkaard told a press conference on Saturday.

"People talk about the President but he can’t score goals. When results are not good, what does the President have to do with it."

However, Rijkaard is proud of his five-year tenure with Barcelona.

"I’m grateful for the years I have spent here. I have always put the team first and given my very best to the club and to the fans. It has been an honour for me."
