Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti said on Saturday that it was necessary to sack coach Roberto Mancini.

The Italian tactician was dismissed from his role despite guiding Inter to a third consecutive Serie A title.

"The simplest solution would have been to have continued with the coach with whom we won three consecutive championships," Moratti told Corriere della Sera.

"If I intervened it was because I thought it was necessary, not against the coach, but in the interests of Inter."

Mancini said recently he would take a legal action against Inter for 'offending' his reputation.

Inter released a statement in which they criticized Mancini's comments following Inter's Champions League exit at the hands of Liverpool.

The former Lazio boss said at that time that he will resign as Inter coach, only to retract his decision few days later.

"Those declarations created a lot of difficulty for Inter. They unbalanced the team," Moratti added.

The Nerazzurri are expected to announce the appointment of Jose Mourinho as their new coach next week.
