Italy's defense might have been dealt a new blow just before EURO 2008 kicks-off as Christian Panucci limped out of the pitch during training on Friday.

According to a statement released by the Italian Football Federation, Panucci felt pain in his right knee during training "and stopped as a precaution."

Panucci, 35, is manager's Roberto Donadoni first choice right-back and if recovered in time, he will start against Holland on Monday in Group C.

Fellow defender and Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro was left out of the squad after tearing ankle ligaments after the World Champions arrived in Austria.

Italy also face Romania and World Cup finalists France in the same group.
