England manager Fabio Capello has blasted the Italian media for their criticism to Roberto Donadoni following Italy’s 3-0 defeat against Holland.

“I absolutely disagree with what has been said regarding the squad and the Coach. The media have gone into mourning after just one game,” Capello insisted on Rai Sport.

The Italian media opened fire on the Azzurri’s boss questioning his tactical choices. Tuttosport’s headline was demanding the return of Marcello Lippi who stepped down after the World Cup 2006 triumph.

The press slammed Donadoni for not giving starting roles to Fabio Grosso, Alessandro Del Piero, Antonio Cassano and Guiseppe de Rossi.

“I was listening to the game on the car radio and as soon as they announced the team line-up they immediately questioned the lack of Daniele De Rossi.”

“I have heard it said that Donadoni should have chosen a different formation and made a number of mistakes, but I don’t agree. I think that Holland had some chances and they made the most of them, while Italy didn’t exploit theirs,” concluded the former Real Madrid and Juventus coach.
